PRESCHOOL AND ELEMENTARY STUDENTS: Each Sunday
children ages three years through elementary school are invited at
10:45 a.m. to share with each other the Good News of God's love and
care for them. The purpos e of our weekly Sunday School gathering
is: to help our children grow together in their knowledge and love for
our Lord and for each other. This mission is in keeping with the
one Christ himself presented us when he told us to "love the Lord
thy god with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy
mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the
second is like unto it: Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself."
Our approach to children's education is "Godly Play."
GODLY PLAY: In Godly Play is an imaginative
approach to working with children. It is an approach that
supports, challenges, nourishes and guides our children's spiritual
quest. It is bible story based, and the children have learned
the story of Creation, through the waters of the Great Flood, into the
desert with Abram and Sarai, Moses and the Children of Israel.
The have explored the Rite of Baptism, the Circle of the Holy
Eucharist, enjoyed the familiarity of the Story of the Holy Family,
heard about the Seven Faces of Christ, and listened to the Story of
Advent. They have the Parables of Jesus to explore: The
Good Shepherd, The Leaven, The
Great Pearl, The Mustard Seed and more.
Children enter the worship service at the Peace, and participate in
the Children's Sermon and remain with their families for Holy
Communion. The Church of the Intercession is blessed
with a steadfast corps of dedicated Sunday School teachers.
Suzanne Rathe is our dedicated Christian Formation chairperson.
The Sunday School curriculum is the age-appropriate, Montessori-based
Godly Play program. MIDDLERS:
are a group of middle school students who meet upstairs during the
Sunday School time for age-appropriate, scripture-based education
based upon the excellent David C. Cook Bible & Life Series. |
