Announcements for the week of March 14, 2010

Birthdays & Anniversaries: Birthdays: Betty Woller (Sun.), Jim Sachs (Wed.), Sue Suehring (Thurs.), Jazmyn Wilson (Sat.)

Today:                                    10:45 am Sunday school meeting

Dear Friends, One of our Lenten prayers begins: You bid your faithful people cleanse their hearts, and prepare with joy for the Paschal feast (BCP, p. 379).  Yes, we must prepare for the Paschal feast of Easter. We do not approach Easter with nonchalance or apathy, any more than we’d walk into a meeting with the President wearing cut-offs and flip-flops. But Jesus doesn’t care about the state of our wardrobe; he does care about the state of our hearts. In fact, he died so that you and I with unwashed hearts might be made new and clean (Romans 5:8). And then he rose again from death to proclaim a once-for-all victory over death for everyone who believes in him. This staggering reality should make your knees buckle. So we prepare for this most important week in history, when God changed our futures forever. I pray for your continuing holy preparation.             In Christ, Fr. Jim

UNITED THANK OFFERING (UTO)

With the season of Lent upon us, it is also the time to start collecting our United Thank Offering. UTO is a ministry of the Episcopal Church that nurtures the habit of giving daily thanks to God for our many blessings. The little blue box or envelopes are used by individuals to drop in an offering when blessed in any way. The monies collected by all parishes are combined and given out as grants to support programs both at home and abroad. One hundred percent of the monies collected are given away as grants. Areas funded by UTO include kitchen equipment for a homeless shelter, dental clinics for the poor and handicap access in church buildings to name just a few. One way to contribute is by clicking the red button “Give to the Episcopal Church” on the Episcopal Church website (www.episcopalchurch.org/uto) and selecting UTO. Please be a part of this ministry as a way to give thanks for our many blessings. Boxes and envelopes will be collected shortly before Easter.
