Dear Friends,
One of our Lenten prayers begins: You bid your faithful people
cleanse their hearts, and prepare with joy for the Paschal
feast (BCP, p. 379). Yes, we must prepare for the Paschal
feast of Easter. We do not approach Easter with nonchalance or
apathy, any more than we’d walk into a meeting with the President
wearing cut-offs and flip-flops. But Jesus doesn’t care about the
state of our wardrobe; he does care about the state of our hearts.
In fact, he died so that you and I with unwashed hearts might be
made new and clean (Romans 5:8). And then he rose again from death
to proclaim a once-for-all victory over death for everyone who
believes in him. This staggering reality should make your knees
buckle. So we prepare for this most important week in history,
when God changed our futures forever. I pray for your continuing
holy preparation. In Christ, Fr. Jim
