NOTES FROM YOUR SENIOR WARDEN

PARISH PICNIC

The sign up sheets are in the parish hall. Sign up early and often. Picnics are always more fun if everyone has at least one job to do.

CHURCH NURSERY

Did you see the partially painted nursery? If not, stop by and check it out. It looks so good, it makes you want to have more kids so you can bring them there. Ahhhh, wait let me re-think that one! Big thanks to Amy, Jenn and Jesse.

Vacation Bible School

Time to fall on my sword here. We have had really good schools in the past, and we should have had one this summer too. All of a sudden it was the end of July, and I noticed we forgot to have VBS. If you need to yell at someone, you can reach me at 715-204-9078, preferably before 10pm.

Parish Meeting on the 1st of August

Let me put my serious hat on for a minute. The parish meeting on Sunday, Aug. 1 after the service is a Must Attend. Important information will be presented and you will have much to think about after the meeting.

Jim Sachs, Senior Warden

Lunch Bunch

Bring your own lunch to the parish hall on Mondays at noon and have lunch with Fr. Ed. This informal gathering is for you to enjoy lunch and discuss whatever is on your mind. We hope to see you on Monday!

      Search Committee Information

Our objective was to identify 4 out of 20 major ministry skill sets that Intercession is looking for in a rector. These specialties are based on the parish survey results with consideration given to not only what we look to improve on, but what programs and mainstays we pride ourselves in that keep us motivated and unified. The following categories were chosen: 1. Church Growth and Development 2. Spiritual Guidance 3. Stewardship 4. Preaching. Within each of these categories there are multiple sub-groups and disciplines that will require further review and selection prior to our submission to the Church Deployment Office. Our final review of this task will take place at our next meeting scheduled for Aug. 4.

Parish Profile: An integral part of the search for a new rector involves the creation of a Parish Profile. What do we want applicants and people in general to know about our community, our culture, and our parish? A great way to jump start the process is to reach out to all of YOU for assistance. We are asking for a one sentence response to the question, "Name one thing you want the next rector to know about us?" This question was placed on a small piece of paper and handed out in attendance following last Sunday's service. Thank you to all that have already responded. We will do so again following the service on Aug. 1, and ask that you place these either in the basket in the front of the church, or in Bob Suehring's mailbox. Responses are anonymous. Further development of the parish profile is currently being undertaken by the Search Committee.

Roseanne Bossenbroek, Secretary

Smile!

To make it easier for a new priest to get to know us, Fr Ed suggested that we take current photos of our members. Marla Cummings will be taking pictures on Sunday, Aug. 1 after the parish meeting and on Sunday, Aug. 8 after the church service. Please come to the nursery where she will be set up to take your picture. For a donation to the church, Marla will make you a copy of your photo for your own use.

Acolyte Training

Acolyte training will be held on Aug. 8 and Aug. 29 beginning immediately after Mass. Please plan on attending one or both sessions.

Grow Hansen Visit

You are invited to attend a special event at Trinity on Monday, August 2. Peter and Sarah Grow-Hanson, ELCA missionaries living in Senegal, will participate in the 6:30 p.m. worship service. Following the service a reception will be held in the Narthex. The Grow-Hanson’s will discuss current developments in the Lutheran Church in Senegal, and share a PowerPoint. All are welcome to attend.

The Prophets

On Wednesdays following Evening Prayer and the potluck, Rev. Sue will lead a discussion of the prophets. We will begin on Wednesday, Sept. 8 with an Introduction and Overview of the Prophets. We will continue through Oct. discussing each prophet individually. In Nov. we will prepare for Advent by reading the Advent Prophets. Each session will stand on its own. Come for any part of the evening or the whole time.

Book Group

Rev. Sue’s book group will continue to meet in August. We are reading Amazing Grace by Kathleen Norris. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 3. This one time we will meet at 10:30 a.m. to accommodate summer schedules. We will meet at our regular meeting time of 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 17. The book has very short chapters which stand on their own so it is easy to jump in at any time. Please come join us!

Volunteers needed

We are looking for volunteers to come insulate the pipes. No previous experience is needed, we will provide on the job training. We are waiting for the insulation to arrive so we do not have a date, Ron will call you when the date/time is set. There is a sign up sheet in the parish hall. Contact Ron Sutheimer 715-340-0962, for more information.

Parish Picnic

Reserve the date! This year’s Parish picnic will be held, Sunday, Aug. 22 at the Boy Scout Lodge in Iverson Park. More details will follow in future editions of The Intercession News.

Project Fresh Start

Project Fresh Start is a program of the United Way which distributes school supplies to Portage County children in need. Since the response was so wonderful last year, Church of the Intercession is going to be a collection site for Project Fresh Start again this year. There is a box in the parish hall with a list of things that are needed. We will be taking supplies from now until August 13. Please give generously!
